I’ll let you in on a secret – I never considered myself a developer. In fact, I used to avoid coding!
But last month, something amazing happened. I built a complex WordPress plugin in eight hours using Claude. A developer friend told me it would have taken them two weeks.
The old way of doing things? It’s changing fast. But instead of panicking, I’m embracing it.
Let’s Talk About Jobs (The Full Picture)
I know AI talk can be scary. And let’s be honest – some people are losing their jobs right now. If that’s you or someone you know, that pain is real and I’m not going to minimize it.
But here’s what history teaches us:
Accountants didn’t disappear when calculators arrived – though many bookkeepers had to adapt. Designers didn’t vanish when Photoshop launched – but paste-up artists had to learn new skills. Developers are still thriving despite Claude Code – but they code differently now.
The pattern? Disruption is messy and unfair in the short term. Some folks get hurt. But those who adapt early often end up in better positions than before.
Jobs evolve. We adapt. It’s what humans do best – though it’s never easy.
The real challenge? It’s for businesses built on doing things the slow way. And for workers whose entire value was doing something AI now does instantly.
A Real Story From My Team
Want to see what this looks like in practice? My Low Code Road team is working with a client right now who used to spend 4 days creating proposals. With our new AI-driven system? They’re going to be doing it in 4 hours.
Same quality. 10x faster. More time for strategy and relationships.
Meanwhile, their competitors are still hiring more proposal writers. Who do you think will win more business?
Spotting the Pattern
After working with dozens of businesses, I’ve noticed something. The ones most at risk share a few traits:
- They make money from inefficiency – The longer it takes, the more they charge
- They gatekeep simple stuff – Creating artificial complexity where none exists
- They bill hours, not outcomes – Time becomes more valuable than results
- They profit from confusion – The less you know, the more you pay
I’m seeing it everywhere, and maybe you are too:
- Translation services charging per word when AI translates instantly
- Web designers charging thousands for template sites
- Data entry companies doing work a simple script could handle
- Even my old approach to custom code (ouch, that one hits home!)
The Survival Guide
So what’s the difference between businesses that thrive and those that struggle?
Simple: Stop selling time. Start selling transformation.
Here’s how we’re evolving at Low Code Road:
- Instead of coding individual plugins → Building entire business ecosystems
- Instead of manual processes → Creating AI-powered workflows
- Instead of charging for hours → Pricing based on business impact
- Instead of doing tasks → Solving strategic problems
Same core skills. Completely different approach. Exponentially more value for clients.
What’s Coming Next (With Love)
Based on what I’m seeing, here are some industries ripe for positive disruption:
- Traditional SaaS – When AI can build custom solutions, why settle for one-size-fits-all?
- Recruiting – Matching keywords is AI’s specialty. Human recruiters can focus on culture fit.
- Routine Legal Work – Standard contracts will be instant. Lawyers can tackle complex negotiations.
- Basic Financial Planning – Robo-advisors handle portfolios. Advisors become life coaches.
- Real Estate Transactions – Paperwork goes digital. Agents become neighborhood experts.
Remember: These industries won’t disappear. They’ll transform into something better.
The Opportunity Hidden in the Challenge
Here’s what excites me most. That client I mentioned? They’re not laying anyone off. They’re planning to use their newfound efficiency to:
- Bid on 10x more projects
- Spend more time understanding client needs
- Build deeper relationships
- Grow faster than ever
The “threat” of AI becomes their competitive advantage.
Your Friendly Reality Check
Time for some honest questions (grab a coffee, this is important):
- What inefficiency does your business monetize?
- If that inefficiency vanished tomorrow, what value would you still provide?
- What unique human insight do you bring that AI can’t replicate?
I asked myself these questions six months ago. The answers made me uncomfortable. So I reinvented how we work.
If your answers make you squirm, you’ve got options:
Option 1: Hope AI development slows down (Spoiler: It won’t, but denial is comfy)
Option 2: Start experimenting now while you have breathing room
I recommend option 2. It’s more fun.
Your Next Steps (Yes, You Can Do This!)
- This Week: Pick one repetitive task in your business. Find an AI tool to help.
- This Month: Identify what you do that AI can’t – your human superpower.
- This Quarter: Test one new service model based on outcomes, not hours.
- This Year: Build at least one AI-powered process that delights your customers.
The Encouraging Truth
Your employees? They’ll adapt – though some may need support during the transition.
Your customers? They want results, not processes.
Your business? It can evolve into something even better.
But if your entire model depends on doing something AI does for free? That’s not a business anymore. It’s a hobby.
And hobbies are great! Just don’t try to pay the mortgage with them.
The human cost is real. But so is the human capacity to reinvent ourselves. I’ve seen it happen.
I’m living it myself.
Let’s Do This Together
The future isn’t about AI vs. humans. It’s about AI + humans creating things we never imagined possible.
I’m not special. If I can pivot from “I don’t code” to building plugins with AI, you can transform your business model too.
The clock’s ticking, but you’ve got this. What’s your first move?
